ROCKLAND – John Andrew “Andy” Gass, 71, died Dec. 8, 2009, in Peabody, Mass., due to complications from Guillain Barre syndrome. He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Brewer, son of John A. and Mildred Vena (Canty) Gass. Andy was employed as general manager at Pilot’s Grill, Bangor, for many years, retiring to the coast where he was happy and content. All who knew Andy will remember his larger than life personality and sense of humor. He will be remembered as a very loving, devoted, caring man to all his family. Surviving, in addition to his mother, Mildred Vena Gass of Brewer; are his loving wife, Keneen K. Gass of Rockland; two daughters, Vicki (Gass) Mercier and her partner, Tom Blake, of Westbrook, and Karen Tardiff and her husband, Thom, of Brewer; two grandchildren, Erica and Garrett Mercier; and three sisters, Velma Stewart and her husband, Donnie, of Stillwater, Sally Zoidis and her husband, Bill, of Bangor, and Kathy Arnold and her husband, Eddie, of Holden. He will be missed by his several nieces, nephews; and his Pomeranian, Kennedy. He was predeceased by his father, John Andrew Gass. At Andy’s request, services will be private.
