SOUTH PARIS – Veronica M. Wandell, 91, a resident of Webster Road, Lisbon, formerly of Peekskill, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, of natural causes at the Maine Veterans’ Home, South Paris. She was born Oct. 26, 1918, in Cambridge, Mass., a daughter of Ralph J. and Michalena (Lauchen) Lapinskas. She was educated in Massachusetts schools and graduated from Templeton High School, Templeton, Mass. Mrs. Wandell was employed for many years at Readers Digest magazine until her retirement in 1981. She was a longtime communicant of the former St. Ann’s Parish, Lisbon. She was involved with American Legion Post No. 158 of Lisbon and was also active with National Wildlife Federation. Mrs. Wandell enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and taking walks to enjoy nature. She was an avid reader and a lover of animals. She mostly devoted her free time to her family, especially her grandchildren whom she enjoyed caring and cooking for. She will be remembered for her playful sense of humor, the many stories she would share with her family and friends and her contagious laugh. Her positive personality touched many and will never be forgotten. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy W. Wandell in 2004. Survivors include a son, Roy R. Wandell of Lisbon; a daughter, Vera Ellen Wandell of Peekskill, N.Y.; two sisters, Ann Stockman of Bristol, Conn., and Mary Santoro of Wolcott, Conn.; and her twin grandchildren, Amber Diana Wandell and Roy James Wandell. A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, Dec. 19, at Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls. Interment services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Friends and family may make contributions in Mrs. Veronica M.
