BRISTOL, Conn. – Gilman DuBois, 83, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at New Britain General Hospital. Gilman was born in Frenchville. Gilman was a longtime resident of Bristol, Conn., and was founder of Gil’s Drywall Supplies, Plainville, Conn., which allowed him the luxury of a winter home in Florida and the ability to travel the world. He was a member of St. Matthews Church, Bristol, Conn., Elks Lodge No. 957, Knights of Columbus, where he was a lifetime member, and The St. Jeans the Baptist Association, New Britain, Conn. Gilman was raised on a farm and developed strong family ties which he carried on through his life. He was always there for his family and his friends. He was truly happy when he made people smile and for this he will be dearly missed. As Gil often said, “5 a.m., no problem!” He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Mildred (Lainey) DuBois; his daughters, Patricia Bakaysa, Nola Miller, Jacqueline Belanger and Michele DuBois; his son, Philip; his grandchildren, Kendra Carney, Kim Benane, Paul Manwaring III, Michael Bakaysa Jr., Eric Belanger, Jacqueline DuBois, Kayla DuBois and Philip DuBois Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Josh and Nathan Carney, Michael and Maryssa Bakaysa, Luke Benane and Lily Manwaring. He also leaves behind sons-in-law, Mike Bakaysa, Charlie Miller and Ron Belanger; and daughter-in-law, Laura DuBois. His family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Monday at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville, Conn., where a funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gilman DuBois may be directed to the charity of your choice. www.obrien-funeralhome.com
