BREWER – John Herbert Berry, 76, died peacefully, although unexpectedly, Dec. 11, 2009, at his residence. He was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Bangor, the son of Raymond P. and Emma (Colcord) Berry. John served his country in the U.S. Air Force and afterward served in the Maine Air National Guard for 35 years until his retirement. He then worked for Uniship for several years. He was a member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge AF & AM. John loved riding his ATV and spending time at the pond. He enjoyed keeping busy with small projects around the house and camp. He was especially fond of the family dogs. He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, and will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara M. (Wise) Berry of Brewer; two daughters, Valerie Thayer of Brewer and Kimberly Berry-Lee and husband, David, of Winterport; a grandchild, John Thayer and wife, Amy; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jagger Thayer; two sisters, Mary Lou Neill and husband, Robert, of Brewer and Constance Looke of Cumberland Center; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Sandra McRight. A gathering of remembrance will be held 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, Family Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
