OLD TOWN – Sherwood S. “Bud” McGlinchey, 81, passed away Dec. 15, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility with his loving family by his side. He was born April 2, 1928, in Milford, the son of Stewart and Jennie (Sherwood) McGlinchey. Throughout his life Bud was very proud of many accomplishments including being a corporal in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1948, being a constable in Milford, a deputy sheriff, a volunteer firefighter for the town of Milford, involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Old Town and Milford, worked on the school board in Milford, helped with the Special Olympics, was a founder of the Milford Teen Center, a past president and director of K.C.O.A, delivered for Meals for ME, was a member of Father Druillette Council 2537 Knights of Columbus of Old Town and Fourth Degree Assembly. Bud was an active member at the Star in the East Lodge No. 60 AF & AM, Old Town. While involved with the Masons, Bud held numerous titles and helped with many committees including past master, past district representative, Royal Arch Chapter, past high priest and past patron of the organization of Eastern Star. He was involved with Rainbow Girls No. 4, Bangor and No. 38, Orono. He was grand assembly director on grand executive committee, advisory board and chairman for Bangor and Orono. He was the recipient of Grand Cross of Colors. He was chairman of the board of trustees and secretary for Star in the East Lodge No. 60 AF & AM, Old Town, involved with Scottish Rights, he worked with the 16th, 20th and 32nd degrees. Through the Anah Temple, he was in the Academicians Ceremonial Unit, and a Commandery, Bangor. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rita (Willett) McGlinchey; his six children, Michael McGlinchey and his wife, Lori, Valerie Herrick and her husband, Jerry, Christine McGlinchey, Patrick McGlinchey, and his significant other, Karin Lundgren, Dawn Phillips and her significant other, Mark, and Cynthia Lunt and her husband, Lawrence; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by one sister, Kathleene Evans from California; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his siblings, Grace Beadle, Martha Graves, Stuart McGlinchey, Frances Hannon and Viola Hannon. Family and friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. During the visitation there will be a Knights of Columbus service at 6 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Holy Family Church, Old Town. All are welcome to a luncheon at the parish hall after the service. Interment with military honors will be at Milford Cemetery in the spring of 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Building Fund at Resurrection Parish, 429 Main St., Old Town, ME 04468. “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”
