TRENTON – Dean A. Foss Sr., 62, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at a Bar Harbor hospital with his loving wife by his side. Dean was born March 17, 1947, in Machias, son of the late Fred W. and Shirley I. (Young) Foss. Dean moved to Bar Harbor as an infant and remained there for most of his life. Dean was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Several months after being discharged he met the love of his life, Nancy Keene and they were married Oct. 4, 1972. Dean worked at Jackson Lab for 20 years, retiring in 1999. He then worked at HCGS and The Colonial Inn, Ellsworth. Dean loved to fish, hunt, take boat rides and spend hours by the campfire. He was a member of Ellsworth Elks Lodge No. 2743, where he served as an officer for several years and made many lifetime friends. Dean was known as the man who could raffle anything for Elks charities. He loved participating in lodge activities. Dean is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy; two sons, Dean A. Foss Jr. and Matthew Foss; daughter, Laurie Forrest, all of Trenton; brother, Bruce Foss; sister, Sharon Carroll, both of Bar Harbor; five grandchildren, Spencer and Jacob Forrest, Mackenzie and Dylan Foss, and Damion Foss; brother-in-law, Franklin Keene; and sister-in-law, Penny Frost. He was predeceased by his brother, Jerry. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at Ellsworth Elks Lodge No. 2743 with a time of reminiscing and refreshments afterward.
