BANGOR – Henry Orrin Gatchell, 91, died Dec. 18, 2009, at a Bangor health care center. He was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Newburgh, the son of George Edgar and Laura (Chesley) Gatchell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Henry repaired shoes in the downtown Boston Filene’s store and had been a shoemaker in the Greater Bangor area for many years. Surviving are a son, Steven G. Gatchell of Bangor; a niece, Helen Jenkins of Brewer; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Doris, Henry was predeceased by three sisters, Helen Brown, Gertrude Sennitt and Frieda Snow; and one brother, Millard Wilson. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.
