MEDWAY – Roscoe Lovell York Jr., 69, husband, father and grandfather, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. Rocky was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Medway, the son of Elsie Oakes York and Roscoe Lovell York Sr. He attended Medway schools and in 1958 enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completion of a three-year enlistment, he worked in Connecticut and then in Maine as a machinist. He retired from Great Northern Paper Co. in 2002. Rocky is survived by his wife of 41 years, Andrea (Atkinson) York; three daughters, Rachel Bartlett and her husband, Joel and their daughter, Audrey, of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Rebecca Bucala and her husband, Brian and their children, Anna and Samuel, all of Greenfield, Mass., and Ruth Erin York of Ottawa; three sisters, Lois York of Warwick, R.I., Joyce Lompert and her husband, Walter, of Belington, W.Va., and Harriet MacKeil and her husband, Wayne, of South Portland; a nephew, Andrew York of Gorham; many other nieces, nephews, family members and good friends, including his buddy, Joel Stanley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Lloyd York and his wife, Margaret. A very special thank you is extended to the “life savers” who on March 17, 1994, performed CPR on Rocky after he suffered a cardiac arrest at work. The quick thinking and action of Ron DuBois, Fred Boyer, Doug Freeman, John Nelson and many others allowed Rocky a full life for many years. God bless you. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with Deacon Danny Watson officiating.
