HAMPDEN – Roy S. Barteaux Jr., 78, passed away Dec. 21, 2009, at his home. Roy was born July 25, 1931, in Harrington, to the late Roy S. Sr. and Florence Ames Barteaux. Roy graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 1949, before serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Amphibian Truck Company, during the Korean War. After Roy’s military service, he worked for several local companies as a truck driver, including Grants Dairy, Suburban Propane, Cole’s Express, and St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., which he retired from. He was an active member of several organizations, including past master of Mystic Lodge AF & AM No. 65 of Hampden, Anah Temple Shrine Horse Patrol and Good Will Riders Snowmobile Club. Roy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Roy was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 52 years, Roberta Holmes Barteaux; and his brother, Albert Barteaux. Roy is survived by his daughter, Leah Barteaux; son, Dan Barteaux and wife, Mary; grandchildren, Paige, Elaina, Nathan, Jack and Will Barteaux, all of Hampden; as well as many relatives and good friends, including those he camped with at Whispering Pines Campground, Orland. Family and friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held noon Tuesday, Dec. 29.
