ALBION – Richard W. Gould, 79, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at a local hospital. Richard was born May 29, 1930, in Dixmont, the oldest of 13 children born to Raymond and Nellie (Benson) Gould. He was a bus driver at 17, served with the Army during the Korean War, plowed and sanded roads for the town of Albion, and spent time in construction, well drilling and land excavation as well. Richard was a self-employed woodsman. He hauled wood with his own trucks and continued to sell wood until shortly before his death. Richard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed going out for coffee and visiting with family and friends, spending time with his grandchildren and talking on the citizens band radio. His siblings remember his many acts of kindness and support during their early years. He often helped by purchasing needed clothing, rides to various schools they attended or the money to continue their schooling. His generosity made many a Christmas more joyous. His help to his parents included transportation to any and every event, a new kitchen, a load of wood or getting apples or beans to market. His many acts of pure goodness were not always known to others. His visits and calls will be sorely missed. “Catch ya later” dear brother.
