NEWPORT – Lizzie Kilby, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at a local nursing home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Bangor, a daughter of the late Peter and Annie (Campbell) Cody. She was one of six sisters and was a graduate of Ashland High School. Lizzie shared 58 years of marriage with Charles A. Kilby. She devoted her life to her husband and raising their three children. When her children were young, she was active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and teaching Sunday school in the Methodist church. She was a member of Lioness Club and participated in women’s bowling leagues. Lizzie enjoyed sewing, knitting and crafts. In addition to her husband of Newport, she is survived by three children, Gary and wife, Carlene, of Old Orchard Beach, Jerry and wife, Leisa, of Frankfurt, Ky., and Betty and husband, Peter Stone, of Enfield; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Crosby & Neal, Newport, with the Rev. Joan DeSanctis officiating. Spring burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
