FORT FAIRFIELD and OCALA, Fla. – Reginald Keith Shaw, 84, died unexpectedly Dec. 18, 2009, at his home in Ocala, Fla. Known to family members as “Reg,” and to his friends as “Reggie,” he was born May 22, 1925, in Fort Fairfield, to Ernest Wesley Shaw and Rena LeVasseur Shaw. He was educated in public schools in Fort Fairfield and was drafted to serve in the U.S. Marine Air Corps during World War II. He served in the Pacific on aircraft carriers during that conflict; his military service was a source of great pride to him. After the war he worked a brief time as a farmer in Fort Fairfield, and then became a race horse trainer working in California, New York and Florida, where he was a resident for the past 30 years. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Shaw Craddock of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Courtney Craddock Armstrong of Montgomery, Ala., Matthew Craddock of Huntsville, Ala., and Angela Craddock DeHart of Atlanta; sister, Polly Shaw of Bath; brothers and sister-in-law, Ernest Shaw Jr. of Sun City West, Ariz., and Wendall and Barbara Shaw of Fort Fairfield; nieces and nephews, Linda Shaw, Nancy Shaw Perry, Arthur Shaw, Mark Blanchard, Dana Blanchard and Jayne Shaw; two great-grandchildren, many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Elaine Shaw Blanchard; his nephew, Gregory Blanchard; and sister-in-law, Beverly Shaw. Inurnment will be at the Northern Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish to donate in memoriam may do so to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
