MEDWAY – John M. “Skip” Elward, 66, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1944, in Dexter, the son of John and Barbara (McCorison) Elward. John worked for Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket, for many years as a mechanic, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed working in his garage, repairing gasoline engines and working on things that were “old and rusty” – especially old tractors. John was a member of Pine Tree Lodge No. 172, AF & AM, Mattawamkeag. In addition to his mother, John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda J. (DeWitt) Elward of Medway; two children, John M. Elward II and his wife, Christina, of Medway and Rachel Elward of Bangor; a grandson, Jeffery Elward; a sister, Deborah King and her husband, Dennis, of Orono; a brother, Rick Elward and his companion, Penny Beckler, of Mattawamkeag; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John will also be missed by many close friends. He was predeceased by his father.
