HOULTON – Ronald E. Brewer, 81, died Jan. 12, 2010, at his residence. He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Houlton, son of Walter P. and Isabel L. (Campbell) Brewer. Ronald graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1947, and Hemphil Diesel Engineer School, Long Island, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War on the destroyer USS Isherwood DD520. Ronald was a well-known mechanic having worked for J.K. McKay Chevrolet for several years, and Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, retiring after 25 years. He worked harder after retirement helping his family, friends and neighbor whenever he could lend a hand. He was an active member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and American Legion Post 47. Ronald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda (McBrine) Brewer of Houlton; two sons, Brent and his wife, Anne, of Alstead, N.H., and Dale and his wife, Ellen, of Cape Elizabeth; one daughter, Brenda Taylor and fiance, Leslie Oliver, of Houlton; three grandchildren, Kristie Taylor, Melissa and Eric Brewer; great-granddaughter, Jillian Taylor Moran; three brothers, Walter Brewer Jr. of Kentucky, Floyd Brewer of Houlton and Maurice Brewer of Hammond; one sister, Mae Passardi of Vermont; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two sisters, Lois Henderson and Ruth Caruso. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Good Shepherd with the Revs. Leslie Nesin and Jessie Drysdale officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
