YARMOUTH – Cynthia Rich Catell, 83, died peacefully Jan. 17, 2010, surrounded by her family at Sedgewood Commons. Born April 24, 1926, in Bangor, Cynthia was the daughter of Charles Middleton Rich of Winterport and Hilda Bangs Rich of Augusta. Cynthia graduated from Bangor High School in 1944 and attended Husson College. She married Robert Leonard Catell of Bangor, June 18, 1945. Throughout her married life she moved frequently and was involved with many organizations. She was a colonial dame and a docent for the Tate House. She particularly enjoyed giving tours to school groups. She was a member of the Mayflower Society and the Junior League in Maine and Massachusetts. She loved her home in Yarmouth and was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of Yarmouth Farm and Garden, Village Improvement Society, Health Council and Fortnightly Club. She belonged to Saint Mary’s Garden Club and visiting board of Maine Medical Center. Cynthia was also an avid golfer and a member of Portland Country Club. She was a member of South Freeport Congregational Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert L. Catell; her daughter, Anne Catell and her husband, George Samuels, of Greenland, N.H.; and her four grandchildren, Benjamin, Haley, Robert Pecora and Adrienne Catell. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at South Freeport Church, UCC, 98 South Freeport Road, Freeport. Burial will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cynthia’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 170 U.S. Route One, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105 or a Haiti Relief Charity of your choice.
