KITTERY – John S. McIntyre Sr., 88, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, while surrounded by his loving family at Durgin Pines, Kittery, after a long illness. John was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Eastport, son of George and Vida (Calder) McIntyre. He attended Lamoine schools and was a graduate of Ellsworth High School. After school John enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. John worked for H.E. Sargent as a truck driver for many years. He also worked at several other local firms before retiring in 1978. John was a charter member of Lamoine Fire Department, which was established in 1947. He was a life member of Eliot American Legion Post No. 188, where he held office throughout the years. A big hearted man, John enjoyed volunteering and helping others. In his down time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and lobstering with his sons and grandsons. John will be deeply missed by his wonderful family that spans five generations. Predeceasing John was his daughter, Rayma; two sons, George and John Robert; as well as four sisters. Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara (Conary) McIntyre of Kittery; a daughter, Brenda Davis of Old Town; and three sons, Vincent and his wife, Linda, of Kenduskeag, John Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Kittery, and Richard and his wife, Darlene, of Kittery. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A period of visitation for John and his family will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, where a funeral service for John will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22.
