BANGOR – Clarence “Cass” Dyer, 83, passed away Jan. 21, 2010, surrounded by family, after a brief illness. He was born April 2, 1926, in Orrington, to Sheridan and Dora (Betts) Dyer. Cass was drafted into the service in the later part of his junior year at Brewer High School. Upon return from serving in the Philippines during World War II, he earned his diploma. He would marry the love of his life, Kathleen Glines, in 1948, go on to have four children, and established their home on Fairfax Street, Bangor, which soon became the hub of the family. Cass was employed at Eastern Fine Paper for many years, until its closing. He then went with Maine Central Railroad for the remainder of his working years. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and mowing lawns, and he especially enjoyed his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. Very rarely did he miss a game or any other functions of theirs. He thrived on having family around. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Carroll and James; and two sisters, Gloria Getchell and Doreen Rogers. Cass is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Kathleen Dyer of Bangor; his son, David of Westbrook; his son, Jeffrey and wife, Susan, of Glenburn; daughter, Valerie Dawn and her husband, Paul Dionne, of Sanford; and daughter, Gretchen Dyer-Gagnon and her husband, Daniel, of Holden; eight grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Robin, of Montville, Ben and his wife, Gwen, of Gray, Emily Braley and her husband, David, of Glenburn, Hilary Graffam and her husband, Chad, of Glenburn, Jodie Dyer of Brewer and Lee, Tyler, and Colin Gagnon of Holden; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Creed, Alexandra, Brooke, Alexis, Olivia and Ciera; an inherited son, Doug MacGown of Bar Harbor; and two godchildren, David Miner and Melissa Miner-Molieri of California. Honoring his wishes, there will be a graveside service for immediate family at Woodlawn Cemetery, Andover, at a later date.
