BELFAST – Mary Elizabeth Lennon, 70, died Jan. 19, 2010, at Tall Pines Nursing Home after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born July 30, 1939, in Pueblo, Colo., daughter of Betty and Robert Scott. Mary was raised in Denver. She was employed as a flight attendant for American Airlines for eight years based in New York City. After a period of 12 years spent raising her three daughters, Mary began a second career in Atlanta as a realtor. She retired in Northport with her husband, Ed, in 1999, moving to Belfast in 2004. Mary had the opportunity to travel most of the world with her family and the sensitivity to see beauty in everything. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Lennon of Belfast; their three daughters, Jennifer Petritz and her husband, William, of Atlanta, Elizabeth Leatherbury and her husband, Edward, of Charleston, S.C., and Victoria Dettwiler and her husband, Blake, of Atlanta; and five grandchildren, Sophia Petritz, Annelise Petritz, Genevieve Petritz, Mary Grace Leatherbury and James Leatherbury. A gathering of friends will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at 16 Seaside Drive, Belfast. After cremation, a memorial service will be held in the late spring at First Baptist Church, Belfast, with interment at Grove Cemetery.
