BANGOR – Patricia M. Leighton, 69, passed away Jan. 22, 2010, after a 10-year, courageous battle with lung disease. She was born Dec. 11, 1940, in Orono, the daughter of Edmond J. and Elizabeth A. (Simmons) Goodie. She went to Orono schools and later worked at Columbia Market, Kresges and Kmart for many years. She married James Clark in 1962 and had three sons, James Clark III, John and William. In December 1976, she married James E. Leighton, who has been her devoted, loving husband for the past 33 years, and in recent days her tireless caretaker. Pat so loved being with her family. Her smile was brightest when she was receiving hugs from her grandkids. Visits from friends and family always cheered her up. Pat will be greatly missed by all her family. She was predeceased by her parents; her older sister, Kathryn Muncey; stepson, Stephen James Leighton; and nephew, Edmond “Joey” Muncey. Surviving are her husband, James E. Leighton of Bangor; three sons, James III of Bangor, John Clark and his wife, Kathryn, of South Portland and William of Portland; two stepsons, Howard and Jamie Leighton, both of Portland; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Craig of Bangor; eight grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Julia, Brook, Samantha, Erin, Jodie and Dillion; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Brooks and her husband, David, of Otis; two brothers, Edmond Goodie and his wife, Renee, of Mims, Fla., and Arthur Goodie and his companion, Zena Regan, of Brewer; brother-in-law, Merrill Muncey of Holden; numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call 3-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.
