LUBEC – Mary Cissie Powell passed away Jan. 28, 2010, at Ocean View Nursing Home, Lubec, after a 10-year battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. She was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Vanceboro, the daughter of Clancy and Madeline (Nason) Crandlemire. She married James L. Powell, Dec. 31, 1948. They had four children, Norma Stevens of Orrington, David Powell of Trescott, Pamela Blanch of Lubec and Kelli Hall of Lubec. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jonathan and Jessi Stevens, Wesley Powell, Michael and Sean Blanch, and Jordan and Chelsea Hall; and four great-grandchildren, Becca Blanch, Anleigh and Emery Stevens, and Kaeden Reed. In addition to her duties as wife and mother, Cissie spent many years helping support Sacred Heart Church with Beano and suppers. She spent several years as a member of the school board, plus many years helping with Lubec Athletic Boosters Club. She worked for the town Democratic Party. She was one of the first volunteers of Lubec Ambulance service. She was especially involved with getting Regional Medical Center, Lubec, started, and served on the board of directors from day one until her health would not allow her to continue. She became a true “Lubecer” the day she moved here in 1962, and just about everyone in town knew her friendly smile and appreciated her support. She was loved by and adopted by half the kids in town that her own kids brought in as their friends. She leaves behind her husband, children; one sister, Dawn Lathrop of Norwich, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Jean Crandlemire of Nyantic, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers, Hugh, Lawrence, Vance and Earl Crandlemire. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec, with Father Eugene Gaffey, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to make donations in her memory may do so to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
