BUCKSPORT and DANFORTH – Lawrence J. Russell, 86, passed away Jan. 27, 2010, at his home with his loving family by his side, after a long illness. He was born April 4, 1923, in Danforth, the son of Adelbert B. and Adelia A. (McLaughlin) Russell. Lawrence grew up in Danforth and was a graduate of East Grand High School, Class of 1943. He joined the Army and was stationed in Okinawa from 1947 to 1949. He worked at East Grand School for 35 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Irish) Russell; four children, Larry Russell and wife, June, of North Carolina, David Russell and wife, Cheryl, of Chester, Gail Darveau and husband, Kenneth, of Bucksport, and Dennis Russell and fiancee, Wendy Gray, of Penobscot; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A spring burial will be held in Danforth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lawrence to CancerCare of Maine, 33 Whiting Hill Road, Brewer, ME 04412. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
