BREWER – Gertrude A. (Dyer) Stevens, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born July 8, 1932, in Houlton, the daughter of Theodore and Edith (Crawford) Dyer. Gertrude was a graduate of Windham High School. She attended Farmington State Teachers College and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono. Gertrude enjoyed a 27-year career as a teacher at Pendleton Street School, Brewer. She enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, camping, traveling and crafts. Gertrude was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Brewer Garden Club. She always enjoyed her Friday morning breakfast with her fellow teachers. In addition to her mother, Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Kathy Dunlap and her husband, Bob, of Herndon, Va., Patricia Alley and her husband, Michael, of Bangor and Linda Babbidge and her husband, Scott, of Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Daniel, Laura, Justin, Christopher and Sierra. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her husband, Earle Stevens; a grandson, Matthew; and special friend, Bill Hunt. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, with Pastor Carl Schreiber, of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. After the service relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshment at Brookings-Smith Family Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
