PORTLAND, Maine — A 23-year-old Portland man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a shooting outside a nightclub that left a former Marine paralyzed from the waist down.
Brandon Brown wept and apologized to his family and friends at his sentencing Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court.
A jury in November found Brown guilty of attempted murder for shooting James Sanders with a .357-caliber handgun on June 24, 2008, in Portland’s Old Port district.
Sanders now lives in Atlanta and is adjusting to life in a wheelchair. He did not attend the hearing.
Prosecutors said Brown wanted to get revenge against Sanders for throwing him out of a strip club weeks earlier where Sanders worked as a bouncer.
