CORINTH – Carroll Robert Doyle, 68, surrendered his presence here on earth and joined his young daughter and other loved ones at the throne of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ March 1, 2010. Carroll was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Bangor, the son of Merrill I. and Doris E. (Goss) Gerow. He was adopted May 14, 1942, by Arthur and Ida Doyle of Orrington. Carroll was not just an ordinary man. He faced the challenges that accompany cerebral palsy and in spite of those challenges, he learned to do many things, and he indeed, did them well. For the last 15 years, Carroll directed his energies for his love of farming and tending a vegetable stand on Route 15, Corinth. He loved his interactions with his customers and the community enjoyed him as well. For Carroll, it was never about making a large amount of money, some days it was just a neighbor stopping by to offer him a cold beverage and a bit of socializing. Carroll knew love twice in his life. In March 1975, he was joined in marriage to Valerye Lawson. During their marriage, Carroll was blessed with the joys of fatherhood with the birth of two children, a son, Brian; and a daughter, Eryn. Carroll never remarried, but while working in Phoenix, he met and fell in love with Susie Brasslett who he happily shared his last 28 years with. Carroll was predeceased by his birth parents, his adoptive parents; his wife, Valerye; and his daughter, Eryn. He leaves a legacy he can be proud of in his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Samantha Doyle and a fine grandson, Callahn Robert Doyle, who brightened Carroll’s last days with an unexpected extended visit from their home at Travis Air Force Base, California. He is survived by his loving companion, Susie Brasslett of Corinth. Though Carroll had no siblings, he cherished his friendship with Carl Grant who Carroll relied on like a brother. Carroll leaves behind family members from both the Lawsons and the Brassletts who will miss him tremendously. Heaven’s gain is our loss. Carroll’s survivors express their deepest gratitude to all the staff members of St. Joseph Hospital, Ross Manor and Bangor Rehabilitation for all the loving care that was given Carroll. They truly gave of themselves above and beyond the call of duty. A memorial luncheon in celebration of Carroll’s life will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Charleston Pentecostal Church Fellowship Hall with the Rev. Matthew Ward officiating. Those who wish may make donations in Carroll’s memory to Corinth’s Building a Safe Place, care of Charleston Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 179, Charleston, ME 04422.
