BANGOR – Charlotte Mary (Canning) Clark, 84, passed away March 1, 2010, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. She was born April 9, 1925, in Bangor, the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary A. (Ware) Canning. Charlotte graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1943. She retired from the City of Bangor where she worked for the city manager, public health nurses and the Department of Health and Welfare. She married her dear husband, James T. Clark, Oct. 1, 1949. She was very handy and would tell anyone that she knew one end of a hammer from the other. She was the ninth generation in her family at St. John’s Catholic Church and was christened on Easter Sunday in 1925. She was always the loudest advocate for the poor, the sick, the lonely, children and any furry friend. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Coffin and companion, Richard Merrill, of Bangor; the light of her life, her granddaughter and “Little Peach,” Mary Kathleen “Katy” Coffin; her “little boy” that she considered her own, Mark Pellon; a cousin whom she considered her sister, Mary Elaine Williams; and her lifelong best friend, Geneva Peters. She is also survived by many faithful friends. She considered them her chosen family because they had given her continuous love and support, especially in the last few years, Dana and Sharon Dorsey, Thomas and Amy McNichols and family, Jeremiah and Beth Ann Adams and family, Lil and Charlie Bemis and family, Tom Ellis, Jim and Pam LeBlanc, and Derek Mower. She will also be desperately missed by her faithful four-legged companions, Ellie and Jake, who will miss their daily fluffernutters. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Edward Canning; and her beloved poodle and best friend, Mitzi. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish at St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the home of Tom Ellis, 120 Laurel Circle, Bangor.
