SABATTUS – George C. Nickerson, 71, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Medical Center due to pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia. He was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Franklin, the son of Wilbert W. and Sylvia (Dyer) Nickerson. He worked as a carpenter/ contractor for a number of years, and then as a chaplain and director of various rescue missions. He founded Hope Haven Gospel Mission, Lewiston. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; and by his five children, Mark and his wife, Sandy, of Dedham, Donald and his wife, Lorraine, of McAdam, New Brunswick, Janet and her longtime partner, Edward Brown, of Stuart, Va., Nancy and her husband, Shawn Edwards, of Hebron, and Rebecca and her husband, Ronald Edgerly, of Sabattus; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother, Raymond Chase of Bangor; and two sisters, Louine Young of Seal Harbor and Liane Peach of Bar Harbor. He was predeceased by his sister, Sylvia “Bunny” Clark. There will be a memorial service held 1 p.m. April 28 at East Auburn Baptist Church, Auburn.
