PROSPECT – Thomas Richard Curtis passed away March 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Tom was born April 30, 1936, in Boston, the son of LaForrest and Ella (Pye) Curtis. From infancy he was raised by Addie Curtis, his loving stepmother. Tom attended grade schools in Charleston and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1955. Upon graduation he entered the Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1965 when he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Tom retired from Genex Corp. Inc. in 1998 after 21 years of service. He was also a member of the Masons for many years. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, and his family and friends, to which he could tell his many stories and find fresh material for new ones. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Connick) Curtis of Prospect; his children, Denise Maheu and husband, Marc and their son, Jack of Fairfield, Darcy (Curtis) Butler and husband, Robert and sons, Robert “Tommy” and Tynan, of State College, Pa., and Thomas Curtis and wife, Amanda, of Cromwell, Conn.; stepchildren, Donna Connick of Holden and children, Jessica, of Holden, Brice and wife, Jocelyn, of Hawaii, Travis of Holden, Sharon Esler and husband, Jason, of Albion and children, Robert of Orrington, Sam Louis of Orrington and Teresa Grant and husband, Allen, of Plymouth; sister, Mary Curtis Clark of Brewer; brothers, Robert Curtis of Bangor and LaForrest Curtis of Greenbush; several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Addie Curtis; first wife and mother of his children, Jeanne (Philbrick) Curtis; brother, Junior Curtis; sisters, Doris Rozelle and Betty Stebbins; and stepdaughter, Susan Connick. Special thanks to caregivers at the Oncology Department of Waldo County Hospital, and Waldo County Hospice, especially Kathy Warner and Rosemary LeBlanc. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until the time of memorial service 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, officiated by Pastor James Barclay. Private internment will be in the spring at Morrill Cemetery.
