LINCOLN – James Leo McLaughlin Sr., 91, husband of the late Ruth (Nicolai) McLaughlin, died March 11, 2010, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born March 4, 1919, in Weston, son of James and Henrietta (Gilpatrick) McLaughlin. Jim graduated valedictorian of Danforth High School, Class of 1936. He began his diverse career as a “cookie” at a woods camp at age 14. He graduated to woods cutter and after high school went to meat cutting school. He worked as a meat cutter until entering the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the 152nd Field Artillery and went through a series of divisions, ending with the 56th Field Artillery 8th Division Pathfinders as forward observer “Goldenrod B-4” with rank of first lieutenant. Jim served on the State of Maine Hourly Wage Board, Lincoln Planning Board and Democratic Committee, and as an election clerk. He was a fourth degree knight and a communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Lincoln. He was involved in the Cursillista, was a Eucharist minister and donated much of his time to church renovations.
