SHERMAN MILLS – Marjorie Irene Morgan passed on to be with her Lord March 14, 2010, at Springbrook Center, Westbrook. She was born July 5, 1912, in Sherman Mills, daughter of Joseph and Augusta (Collins) Glidden. She had a very healthy and happy life in the past 97 years. She enjoyed telling the story of sliding from the home, where they lived on Glidden Hill, to the one-room schoolhouse at the foot of the hill. It was a long ride and also a long walk back. When she started high school, she walked five miles each way to school – no buses. She married Lyle H. Morgan, Oct. 22, 1930. They ran a small farm for years raising cows, hens and veggies, selling eggs, dressed hens, butter and veggies to many families and businesses. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting, and chatting with her friends and neighbors. After moving from the farm, they moved to Greene, where Lyle worked in the produce department of I.G.A. Marjorie worked as a maid in a local hotel. They took up camping and enjoyed meeting many people, making many friends. They moved to Gray and she went to work for G.T.E. in the oil room until retiring. After her husband passed she took many trips on Maine Line Tours. She saw a lot of the East and made many memories to talk about. She also went to Hawaii with her son, Bryce and wife, Irene. She spent many winters in Florida with her nieces and sister, Alice. She was predeceased by her parents and husband; also a daughter, Vivian Ellen Morgan; son, Bryce Almon Morgan; brothers, George, Joseph, Benjamin and Graydon Glidden; sisters, Alice Bouchard, Nelda Cole and Gloria Glidden; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Morgan) Shields and husband, David, of Hiram; grandchildren, Susan (Morgan) Pierce and Michael of Falmouth, Lori (Morgan) Rulman and James of Westbrook, Cheryl (Morgan) Wilbur and Mark of North Windham, Steven Morgan and Rose of Florida, Brent Morgan of Westbrook, Mark Shields of Farmington, John Shields and Patricia of Hiram, Michael Shields and Brenda of Baldwin, Timothy Shields and Laurie of Waterboro, and Chester Charette and Kristin of Fryeburg; 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Morgan of Sherman and Dorothy Glidden of Delta, Colo.; and two daughters-in-law, Annette (Robinson) Lerch of Florida and Irene (Breen) Morgan of Westbrook. There will be visitation 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish, where a funeral service will begin 3 p.m. Wednesday.
