ELLSWORTH and CHERRYFIELD – Eugene “Gene” N. Tenan, 71, died March 13, 2010, at his residence in Ellsworth. He was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Cherryfield, the son of Arthur H. and Maryanna (Willey) Tenan. Gene attended schools in Cherryfield and graduated from Cherryfield Academy in 1956. He worked at A.L. Stewart Co., A.B. & J.R. Hodgkins, W.T. Grant in the Four Seasons department, Acadia National Park, E. L. Shea Construction and Vescom Security. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his vegetable garden and was an avid reader. He was well known for his pot of “Marafax” baked beans. He was a member of Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Ellsworth; brothers, Charles Tenan and wife, Marita, Neil Tenan and wife, Ellen, and Victor Tenan and wife, Judith, all of Cherryfield; sisters-in-law, Lois Tenan and Wendy L. Ham; brother-in-law, David H. Hanscom; nieces and nephews, Julia L. Ham, Cynthia Curtis and her children, Daniel Curtis and wife, Shannon, Angela Hall and husband, Caleb, Arthur Tenan and wife, Susan and their children, Adam, Matthew and Kyle, Laurie Lee and Rod Philbrick, Rhonda Perry and husband Paul and her children, Holly and Darrin Sargent, Charlene Hammond and husband, Courtney and their children, Robbie, Aidan and Ashton, Emily Lilienthal and husband, Stephen, Glen Tenan and children, Mary Eva, Jessica and Alan, and Brian Tenan; several other great-nieces and great-nephews; and aunt, Erma Willey. He was predeceased by a brother, Adfer Tenan. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with Pastor Ambrose Rolfe officiating.
