MANCHESTER – O. William “Bill” Holden Jr., 81, of Hillside Road, died March 14, 2010, after a long battle with cancer at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Boston, son of Oliver W. Holden and Reita (Young) Holden. Bill was a graduate of Rockland High School and the University of Maine, Orono. For a brief period, Bill was a member of the Philadelphia Athletics Minor League baseball team. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For 42 years, Bill was a sales representative for Exxon Corp. He was a member of Augusta Country Club for 35 years and had a great passion for golf. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, David Holden. Surviving is his wife, Dolores (Knox) Holden of Manchester; a son, William H. Holden and his wife, Stacey, of North Yarmouth; one daughter, Nancy Cripe and her husband, Brian, of Minneapolis; one stepson, Kevin Easler of Freeport; two stepdaughters, Karen Collins and her husband, Steven, of Hermon and Kim Arbour and her husband, Roger, of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Virginia Holden of Freeport; four grandchildren, Reed Holden, Sarah Holden, Jonathon Cripe and Elizabeth Cripe; seven stepgrandchildren, Jason Morneault, Kevin Morneault, Jonathan Collins, Jennifer Arbour, Jewell Arbour, Landon Easler and Lauren Easler; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks Winthrop Rescue for their assistance. There will be no public visiting hours. A private family service will be held Friday, March 19.
