ASHLAND – Vaughn M. Porter, 69, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born April 11, 1940, in Presque Isle, the son of Glen and Evelyn (MacDonald) Porter. Vaughn grew up in Masardis and graduated from Ashland Community High School in 1959. He married Sandra Sutherland, Oct. 3, 1959, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Vaughn was employed as a logging truck driver, agricultural salesman, a car salesman and most recently an excavator operator. He enjoyed working in the woods in the summer. Vaughn is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra of Ashland; their two daughters and six grandchildren, Pam and Brian Buck and their children, Brian Jr., Justin and Aubrey of Mapleton, and Shari Porter of Camden and her children, Brandon of Westbrook, and Taylor and Connor of Camden; one sister, Alice Chandler and husband, Don, of Mapleton; his uncle, Lloyd MacDonald of Westbrook; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by little dog, Daisy. In addition to his parents, Vaughn was predeceased by a special aunt and uncle, Ethel Johnson and Roger Porter. Relatives and friends may call 11 a.m. until time of services Friday at Union Congregational Church, Sheridan Road, Ashland, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Spring interment will be at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to Union Congregational Church, Ashland or Mars Hill Nursing Home.
