HOULTON – Elva A. Scott 89, beloved by all who knew her, passed away peacefully March 19, 2010, at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Jacksonville, New Brunswick, the daughter of Guy and Emma (Gartley) Long. A longtime volunteer for many different organizations, including Lioness Club, Houlton Regional Hospital and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Elva drove seniors to their medical appointments into her 80s. She retired from Ames department store after having worked many years in local stores, including Grant’s and Woolworth/Woolco. An avid traveler, we know Elva’s last journey will be filled with love, wonder and joy. She will be greatly missed. Elva is survived by two sons, Richard Scott of Dalton, Mass., and Lewis Scott of Littleton; one daughter, Ruth Porter of Houlton; one sister, Elizabeth Howard of Hawaii; stepchildren, Ellery Scott of Lincoln, Jack Scott of Hodgdon and Joanne Lindsey of Alabama; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Betty Frazel; stepchildren, Iris Cookson, Geraldine Oliver, Elwood Scott and Phillis Putnum; brothers, Harold, Harvey, Charles, Eugene and Barry Long; and sisters, Meta Friars and Helen Byron. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Dunn Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday with Pastor David Tuttle officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
