BELFAST – Francis Joseph Hannon, 63, passed away March 17, 2010, at his residence. He was born Dec. 5, 1946, in Newton, Mass., the son of Patrick and Agnes (Walsh) Hannon. Frank graduated from Boston College, in 1968; served in the U.S. Navy, 1968-1971; and then received a master’s degree from Duke University, in 1973. He moved to Belfast with his family in 1978 to become the executive director of Waldo County General Hospital, a position in which he served through 1983. From 1983 to 1995, he was president of Affiliated Healthcare Systems, Bangor, followed by private consulting with Healthcare Business Development. In 1997, he returned to his beloved Belfast where he served as director of operations at Waldo County General Hospital and executive director of Penobscot Shores Retirement Community until his retirement in 2008. Frank enjoyed the company of family and his many friends, reading, travel, history and writing poetry, and was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and Boston College. Predeceasing him were his parents; his sister, Patricia Hannon; and his brother, John Hannon. He is survived by his children, Brian Hannon, Mark Hannon and wife, Samantha Briggs Hannon, and Jay Hannon and wife, Jenni McKee Hannon; his brother, Thomas Hannon and wife, Kathy; his sister-in-law, April Hannon; one granddaughter, Lila Beatrix Hannon; a niece, Cindy Hannon; and a nephew, Shaun Hannon and wife, Kathy and their two daughters. Informal memorials will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Lookout Pub, 34 Front St., Belfast, and 4 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in the Hannon family plot at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., Newton, Mass., with a gathering after. All are invited to join the family in saying goodbye to a dear friend.
