MAINE and CONNECTICUT – Linwood F. Cunningham, 90, passed away March 17, 2010, in Mystic, Conn. Born in Bradley, he was the son of the late Guy and Florence (Baddershal) Cunningham. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who fought in Okinawa, Japan. He was married to Katherine (Dumond), who passed in 1976. Linwood was a longtime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Rifle Association and Elks. He had a lifelong love for carpentry and working with wood. He created exquisite furniture, unique candleholders, turntables, bookends and hand carved ducks for gifts. After retirement, he could be found at craft fairs selling jewelry and other small items he enjoyed making. He was very creative and his woodworking was true artistry that showed in everything he made. He had two children with Katherine and spent many happy days and summers at their cottage on Chemo Pond. Those memories will always be treasured and the traditions carried on as his son, Dana, and daughter-in-law, Paulette, of Eddington, have retired and now live there. He married his second wife, Gabrielle Eidesheim and moved to Mystic, Conn., where he worked at Electric Boat, Groton, Conn., up until his retirement in 1984. Gabrielle died in 2009 and we miss her lively personality. In addition to his son and daughter-in-law, he leaves his daughter, Ann Marie Gooding of San Diego; his sister, Edna Blume of Lexington, Kan.; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
