KENDUSKEAG – Paul L. Story, 71, husband of 54 years to devoted wife, Ruby N. (Bryer) Story, passed away Feb. 14, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at his home. Born Dec. 12, 1938, in Washburn, he was the son of Walter R. Story and Ruby R. (Vickery) Story. Paul was educated in Maine and out-of-state schools, as his family traveled a lot. They returned to Bangor in the 1950s and Paul attended Bangor High School. He was employed by Arctic Spring Water Co. from 1956 to 1959 as a truck driver. In 1959 he went to work at Eastern Maine General Hospital and worked in the nursing department until 1969. He resigned and went to work as a truck driver for Colson Distribution, Hampden, and then Dennis Beverage bought the company and Paul stayed on as a truck driver, later becoming warehouse manager. In 1988 he resigned to have his own dairy farm. Paul was an avid fisherman and hunter; he was a member of the National Rifle Association for years. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar. Another passion was his citizens band and ham radio. He enjoyed attending CB meetings and ham radio festivals. He truly enjoyed having Mark Wormwood and Kerry hosting picnics for the radio buddies at his home. Paul always looked forward to our big family gatherings that we tried to hold each year with as many as 107 people attending. Ken Wentworth, Larry Cushman, Don McLaughlin, Charles Bryer, Wendall Giles and Bob Bryer provided the entertainment with their guitar playing, singing and having sing-a-long songs too. There was always plenty of food to eat as everybody helped. Paul is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Sherry M. Story; son, Paul W. Story Sr.; grandson, Paul W. Story Jr. of Kenduskeag; granddaughter, Melissa Ann Story of Florida; one sister, Colleen Giles and husband, Wendall, of Garland; brothers-in-law, Robert R. Bryer and wife, Ruby, of Madison, Carl A. Story; one brother, Jack Story; and grandmother, Bessie R. Martin. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. April 11 at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Spring Street, Dexter.
