HERMON and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Charlene Marie Thayer, 76, loving wife and companion of 58 years to Charles A. Thayer, passed away March 28, 2010, at a Florida hospital after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Bangor. Charlene had a deep love for her family and her dog, Meeka. She enjoyed cooking for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, yard sales, flea markets, crocheting, puzzles and traveling with her husband to Florida for the winter each year. She held numerous jobs in Bangor throughout the years, but especially loved working at Wal-Mart, Bangor and Zephyrhills, Fla., where she was fondly known to all as Nana. She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Thayer of Hermon; three children, Greg Thayer and his wife, Darlene, of Hudson, Gary Thayer Sr. and his wife, Sue, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Cheryl (Thayer) Curry and her husband, Greg, of Bangor; two sisters, Shirley Doak and her husband, Keith, and Eleanor Thayer and her husband, Alvin; five grandchildren, Gary Thayer Jr. and Diana Thayer, both of Harrisonburg, Va., Kelley Thayer, Julie Thayer and Kevin Clark, all of Bangor; seven great-grandchildren, Kurtis, Summer, Sylvia, Sydney, Emma, Lindsey and Hannah; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by father, Clyde Lindsey; and mother, Madeline Lindsey Richardson; brother, Robert Lindsey; and stepfather, Ora Richardson. A private family service will be held at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hermon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
