ALEXANDER – Charles Bernard Donahue Jr., 79, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at his home on Pleasant Lake. Charles was born June 23, 1930, in Calais, son of the late Charles Donahue Sr. and Elizabeth (White) Donahue. He graduated from Calais High School, Class of 1948, and attended the University of Maine, Orono, until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Charles served as a surveyor with the Navy Seabees. After his naval service, he returned to Maine and married Norma Frost. Charles worked for New England Telephone and was transferred to Presque Isle in 1960, where he worked until he retired in 1985, with 30 years of service. After his retirement, he stayed busy working as a contract engineer for the phone company. In 1991 Charles and his wife, Norma moved to Alexander, where they built a home on Pleasant Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, making weather sticks, and watching the Red Sox and Bruin games. In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his loving wife, Norma Donahue; and a son, Samuel Donahue. Surviving are his three sons, David Donahue and his wife, Marion, of Presque Isle, Charles Donahue and his companion, Ida Kinnear, of Presque Isle and Patrick Donahue and his wife, Anne, of Baileyville; six grandchildren, Cara and Emily Donahue of Nashua, N.H., James Donahue of Presque Isle, Joseph Donahue of Waterville, and Riley and Lauren Donahue of Burlington, Ontario; four stepgrandchildren, Tessa Ireland of Presque Isle, Michael Ireland of Mars Hill and Katharine and Michelle Boomer of Baileyville; many special friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
