MILBRIDGE – Gertrude Ida Seavey, 89, died March 23, 2010, at a Milbridge health care facility, with the photo of her beloved father in his sea captain uniform next to her. She was born May 23, 1920, in Portland, one of a pair of twins, to Galen F. and Marjorie (Hall) Seavey of Portland and Prospect Harbor. She had a twin brother who died at birth. Trudy attended grammar school in South Portland, and private high school, Deering New England Grad High School, for her high school years. She worked 19 years, as a nurse’s aide at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, and later years was the well-known mail lady at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility. Trudy’s parents had a home in Prospect Harbor, where Trudy resided until coming to live at Narraguagus Bay Nursing Home, Milbridge, in 1982. Her father, Galen, was a seaman and traveled a great deal. Trudy was very close to family and friends. She was an avid baseball and basketball fan, and followed her beloved Red Sox closely right up to her death. Her bedroom walls were adorned with baseball posters and pennants – Red Sox of course! Prior to coming to the nursing home, Trudy was a member of Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary and Women’s Club of Prospect Harbor. She also enjoyed knitting and listening to the radio. Trudy was very proud to have the distinction of having lived at Narraguagus Bay Nursing Home 27-plus years, longer than any other resident; she had her own Narraguagus Bay Staff Badge and wore it proudly every day. She befriended everyone she met and was an integral part of the lives of residents and staff at the facility. Even though Trudy was born with cerebral palsy and suffered from arthritis in later years, it never stopped her. She always said, “Dr. Aselton told me to just keep going,” and she did. Trudy was very involved with activities: Beano, bowling, singing hymns, cookouts and car rides. Trudy was treasured by many who knew her. She will be missed and fondly remembered. Trudy is survived by many friends, including the residents, staff, visitors and volunteers at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility Activity Fund, care of Tracy Batson, activities director, Main Street, Milbridge. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge.
