HAMPDEN and HERMON – Richard “Dick” A. Gallupe, 80, passed away peacefully April 1, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Richard was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Brewer, son of the late Murray D. and Vivian I. (Barchard) Gallupe. Dick grew up and attended schools in Bangor before serving his country in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic in the Korean War. He resided in Hampden for more than 40 years, where he and his wife raised their family. He worked as an assistant engineer for Bangor Hydro. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer, including hunting, fishing and camping on Schoodic Lake and working around his home. He was a 50-year member of Mystic Lodge No. 65 AF & AM of Hampden and a member of Anah Shrine Temple. Dick will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathleen L. (Dicker) Gallupe of Hermon; his son, James Gallupe and his wife, Audrey and her two daughters, Erica and Lauren Peavey, all of Orrington; his daughter, Deborah Smith and her husband, James; his two beloved granddaughters, Kristin and Kayla Smith, all of Winterport; brothers, Donald Gallupe and wife, Pat, of Bangor and Robert Gallupe and wife, Irmgard, of California; as well as a special nephew, Lee Bailey and wife, Dian, of Newburgh. Dick was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Arthur Gallupe; and three sisters, Helen McLaughlin, Constance Holling and Virginia Thurston. In keeping with Dick’s wishes, a private graveside service for family will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Mount Hope Cemetery, State Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating. Attendants are asked to meet at the superintendent’s lodge 15 minutes prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to a time of remembrance and light refreshments noon Tuesday at Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, 44 Kennebec Road, Hampden. Memorial contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to Shriner’s Children Hospital, care of Anah Temple, P.O. Box 735, Bangor, ME 04402-0725.
