HOLDEN – Marjorie Z. Wiersma, 97, wife of the late George Wiersma, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Midland Park, N.J., the daughter of William and Tryna Zeedyk. She grew up in Midland Park, N.J., and lived there all her life until 1998, when she moved to Holden to be near her son and his family. She graduated from nursing school in 1934 and worked for several years as a private duty mental health nurse. Married in 1935 to George Wiersma, Marjorie taught Sunday school for 20 years. She belonged to the Mother’s Club, Evening Missionary Society and with George, advised the youth group for a number of years. She was known to always lend a hand to friends and neighbors in need. Marjorie was very talented artistically. She painted, drew, sewed, did ceramics and all kinds of crafts. She and her husband purchased a camp on Shagg Pond, Woodstock, in 1950, and she spent all or part of every summer there for the rest of her life. It was her favorite place to be. Marjorie is survived by her son, Bruce and his wife, Ann, of Holden; four grandchildren, Heather Charity and her husband, Richard, of Lexington, Ky., Robin Wiersma of Johnston, R.I., Jennifer Madore and her husband, Norman, of Old Town, and Joshua Wiersma and his wife, Jonida, of Dracut, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren, Raiden, Ayla and Bowen Charity, and Savannah Madore. She is also survived by a special niece, Joni Jones of Iowa City, Iowa; and special nephews, George Jones of Brookfield, Wis., and Douglas Hinshaw of Westford, Vt., and their families. She was predeceased by her husband in 1994, her two brothers, two sisters, as well as a son who died at birth. At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. May 14 at Valleau Cemetery, Paramus, N.J. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Community Health and Counseling Services, P.O.
