CARIBOU – Camille Charette, 88, died April 8, 2010, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born March 24, 1922, in Fort Kent, son of the late Alfonse and Catherine (Blanchette) Charette. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and would tell everyone he was a “D-Day Vet.” He married Carmen Devoe and was employed by several area potato growers for many years. Mr. Charette was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Lizzie, Joe, Patrick, Romeo, Rita, Lewis and Dave. Surviving in addition to his loving and devoted wife of more than 68 years, Carmen, of Caribou, are his eight children, Frieda Dickinson and her husband, David, of Ashland, Carl Charette and his wife, Gloria, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Claude Charette and his wife, Cindy, of Pittsfield, N.H., Dianne Young and her husband, John, of Caribou, Glenn Charette and his wife, Marcia Keefe, of Alfred, Camille Doebener and her husband, Peter, of Washburn, Catherine Charette and her husband, Steffan Duplessie, of Dexter and James Charette and his wife, Allyson Humphry, of Portland; three sisters, Theresa Pelletier and Cora Lawless, both of Connecticut and Lucille Roy of Fort Kent; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with Father Jean-Paul Labrie officiating, assisted by Mr. Charette’s grandson, the Rev. Stephen Young. Interment with military honors will be at New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
