CALAIS – Joanne Lovley, 86, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. Joanne was born Jan. 19, 1924, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Frank and Ollie (Woodcock) Stevens. She graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1941. Throughout her life Joanne worked for various companies as a secretary, including the U.S. Air Force, Houlton and Presque Isle; Optometric Clinic, Boston; St. Croix Paper Co., Calais Regional Hospital and the Calais School System. While employed with the Calais School System, she went on to become an education technician. Joanne enjoyed traveling, playing games and cards with her friends, and family get-togethers. She especially loved her cottage and time at Cathance Lake. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Lovley; and a brother, A. Robert Stevens. Surviving are her two sons, Michael Lovley and his wife, Brenda, of Dedham and Ronald Lovley and his wife, Darla, of Colorado; three sisters, Mildred Stevens, Jean O’Neil and Florence Churchill; three grandchildren, Rachel, James and Shane; two stepgrandchildren, Neil and Noah Wright; many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A reception will be after in the Community Room at Calais Methodist Homes.
