Congratulations are extended to everyone associated with H.O.M.E. Inc., of Orland, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary during its annual dinner at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in the Parish Hall of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Bucksport.

The dinner is potluck, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.

The guest speaker will be H.O.M.E. executive director Lucy Poulin.

Tracey Hair said H.O.M.E. was founded in 1970 and that it has grown to include “a food bank, soup kitchen, five homeless shelters (including the Emmaus Center in Ellsworth) two transitional housing complexes, a learning center, daycare, craft shops, a pottery studio, weaving studio, stained glass studio, sawmill, shingle mill, automotive garage and much more.”

Hair stressed that “our focus for 40 years has been not just to provide a bed, but a reason to get out of bed,” which is a goal H.O.M.E. has achieved time and time again.

Everyone is welcome to join H.O.M.E. in celebrating its four decades of service to those in need.

Amanda Charette of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor has announced it is seeking a “partner family for House No. 13,” and interested individuals have until Saturday, April 17, to make inquiries about becoming a partner family.

To request “an intake form,” Charette wrote, you are asked to call the HHGB volunteer hot line at 942-8977 or e-mail familyselection@habitatbangor.org.

The partner family will be selected by April 30, Charette wrote, and Habitat plans to break ground on its lot on Fifth Street the second week in May.

Founded in 1988, HHGB is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, which “seeks to eliminate substandard, poverty dwellings and to make decent, affordable housing for everyone a matter of conscience and action,” Charette said.

While readers’ attention is focused on the Belfast area, Virgil Fowles wants you to know “the new committee for the Annual Crosby High School Reunion is hard at work” making sure “this year’s get-together is as fun and interesting as those in the past.”

The CHS reunion is planned for Saturday, Aug. 14, at Belfast Area High School.

Planners are seeking alumni of that former institution who “attended Crosby High at some point in their life,” Fowles wrote.

Anyone who has not received an invitation and would like more information is asked to e-mail Fowles at Mainiac345@fairpoint.net or call Anita Robertson, 338-5697, or Marilyn Keene, 338-2633.

This year’s reunion theme is “Those Were the Days, My Friend,” Fowles wrote in urging alumni “to attend and socialize with old classmates and friends or, in some cases, that relative you haven’t seen for a few years … to come out and join us.”
