CARIBOU – John M. Chick Sr., 79, died April 17, 2010, in Caribou. He was born June 17, 1930, in Gardner, the son of Myrl and Catherine (Carpenter) Chick. John attended Augusta schools and served with the U.S. Navy. He was employed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the Caribou weather office as an electronics technician for many years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Chick received numerous awards and citations from NOAA for his creative abilities and loyal service to the weather bureau. John was a kind, considerate and thoughtful man, always willing to lend a hand, help fix something or help with a problem. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Miller) Chick of Caribou; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cindy Chick Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Scott and Maureen Chick of Lisbon; one sister, Mabel Pooler of San Jose, Calif.; three stepchildren, Karen Kirchner of Caribou, Richard Miller and his wife, Lisa, of South Portland, and Dr. Seth Miller, and his wife, Dr. Jen Frazier, of Rowlett Texas; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Jennifer Chick; three stepgrandchildren, Molly and Chris Miller and Jasmine Kirchner; a special niece, Patricia McCaul; and two special friends, Thelma Morin and Dick Fortier. Mr. Chick was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce, in 1995; his parents; as well as his stepfather, John David McCaul; two sisters, Jessie Drost and Margaret Chick; and three brothers, Rodney Chick and David and Bobby McCaul. Private family services will be held at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
