ORONO – Edgar F. Lord, or as he referred to himself “a bushman,” 80, died unexpectedly April 17, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 8, 1930, in Farmington, the son of George and Sara “Louise” (Quincy) Lord. Edgar graduated from Orono High School in 1948; the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy in 1952; Michigan State, East Lansing, Mich., in 1958; and served in the U.S. Army, being discharged in August 1955. He married Elanore Lee Wilkens Dec. 31, 1954, in Anchorage, Alaska. Edgar served with the United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization from 1961 until retiring in 1984, director Lagos Nigeria, and FAO representative at headquarters in Rome, Italy, with assignments in Addis, Ababa, Ethiopia. He was a member of Orono-Old Town Kiwanis and was an avid world traveler with a passion for the outdoors and Mother Nature. Edgar is survived by his two sons, Fred Lord and Andrew Lord and his wife, Rae; one sister, Dorothy and her husband, Allen “All” Hopkins; and his granddaughters, Mackenzie Lord and Allie Lord. In addition to his parents, his son, Clifford Lord; and his sister, Georgia Ann Lord, predeceased him. A service of remembrance will be celebrated 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono.
