At Gorham, Ben Goodall hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth and Tom Cameron drove in an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to lead Thomas of Waterville past Southern Maine. Goodall totaled two singles and two RBIs for the Terriers. Tom Desjardins doubled and singled with an RBI. Josh Nickerson had two singles with an RBI. John Charves hit two singles, and Jeffrey Richardson scored two runs. Lucas Marks hit a two-run double for the Huskies, Greg Holmes hit a solo home run in the seventh and Nick Grady had two singles and two runs scored. Collin Henry hit two singles.

UM-Farmington, Lyndon split
At Farmington, Brett Wallingford hit a two-run game-ending home run in the seventh in lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 6-5 win over Lyndon State College in the nightcap. Lyndon State won the first game 2-0. In the first game, Shane O’Donnell-Leach pitched a six-hit shutout for Lyndon State. He walked one and struck out three. Stetson Hicks and Corey Lescault both singled twice. Bill Ridge allowed one earned run and five hits through seven innings for the Beavers. Six players singled. In the second game, Josh Garneau had a double, two singles and an RBI for the Beavers. Zachary Keene had two singles and drove in a run. Dale Winchenbach struck out six in five innings. Hicks scored two runs and singled for Lyndon State. Corey Lescault added two singles, a run and an RBI.

UM-Presque Isle 11, MMA 10
At Presque Isle, Kathleen Higgins scored from third on a fielding error to lift the University of Maine at Presque Isle over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine. Higgins also hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie it at 10-10 for UMPI. Brittany Humphrey hit two doubles and a single to drive in two runs for the Owls. Nicole Russell had a double, single and three RBIs. Carolyn Tuck doubled and knocked in two runs and Desiree Smith tripled. Kayla Higgins hit three-run home runs in the third and seventh innings for the Mariners. Leah Jackson hit two singles and drove in a run. Casey McCloskey added an RBI double and a single.

MDI 11, George Stevens 0
At Blue Hill, Peter Logue and Dennis O’Neil combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor defeated George Stevens Academy. Robbie Logue hit two singles and a double for the Trojans. Peter Logue tripled and singled with two RBIs. Colin Madoers hit a two-run triple in the seventh. Peter Logue and O’Neil com-bined to allow five strikeouts and three walks. Josh Gale and Ben Olivari singled for the Eagles.

Ellsworth 16, Sumner 1
At East Sullivan, Seth Cote had a pair of doubles and a single and Kyle Haslam tossed six innings of five-hit, one-run ball, striking out eight and walking one, as Ellsworth opened its season with a victory. Brad Folmer, Cote Card and Andrew Hodge had three singles apiece for the winners and Andrew Austin and Dakota Jewett had two singles each. Mike Crowley’s triple and single and Matt Dyer’s two singles paced Sumner.

Foxcroft 12, Dexter 0
At Dover-Foxcroft, Josiah Richard doubled twice and scored two runs and Mitchell Fadley pitched a three-hit shutout as the Ponies earned the five-inning victory. Ian Champeon added an RBI double and an RBI single for Foxcroft, while D.J. Clukey had an RBI single and three runs scored, Ryan Stroud had an RBI single and two RBI walks, and Ryan Olmsted had an RBI single. Casey Jordan, Ryan Wilks and Zac Poirier each singled for Dexter.

SOFTBALL
Mattanawcook sweeps Caribou
At Lincoln, Tayla Trask struck out 22 batters through 12 innings as Mattanawcook Academy swept Caribou 12-0 in five innings in the first game and 7-4 in the second game. In the first game, Trask pitched a one-hit shutout for the Lynx. She struck out 10 and walked four. MA’s Morgan Mushero had three bunt singles and Mariah Cooper had two bunt singles. Brooke Hanscom and Taylor Blood each singled twice. Sare Damboise singled in the fourth for Caribou. In the second game, Trask had 11 strikeouts for MA. Morgan Russell hit three singles and Brooke Kim-ball had two singles. Jordyn Doucette, Jamie Martin and Damboise singled for Caribou.

Ellsworth 8, Sumner 2
At East Sullivan, Tashia Daley pitched a four-hitter and added a two-run single as Ellsworth won its season opener. Ashley Smith hit an RBI double to highlight a three-run rally by the Eagles in the top of the first inning. Smith scored twice, as did Lily Cooper, who also singled twice. Kiera Eschete had an RBI triple and a single for Sumner, while Ashley Pennartz also had an RBI triple.

Foxcroft 8, Dexter 2
At Dover-Foxcroft, Sam Snyder’s two-run single in the third inning sparked a three-run rally that propelled Foxcroft Academy to its third straight victory. The Ponies followed that uprising with five more runs in the fourth inning to build an 8-0 lead. Winning pitcher Kelsey Boss, Bekah Flanders and Laura Rice each added a single for Foxcroft. Maicee Gustin tripled and singled for Dexter, while Lisa Conway added an RBI triple.

George Stevens 3, MDI 1
At Blue Hill, Lydia Clapp allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 11 in leading George Stevens Academy to victory over Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor. Stephi Davis hit an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Eagles. Anna Clapp tripled and Richelle Kahne drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. MDI’s Becca Edge-comb tripled in the sixth inning and scored on a single by Jamie McKay.
