LEVANT and BANGOR – Anna M. Bart, 95, died April 22, 2010, surrounded by her three children at a Brewer health care facility, after a period of declining health. She was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Bangor, the daughter of Elias and Margaret (Cheverie) Burgess. She was the oldest of 13 children. She enjoyed ballroom dancing in her earlier years, and toured in the United States and Canada as a professional dancer. Anna was part of a group of Patriots, including her sisters, who worked as aircraft mechanics in Connecticut for the U.S. government during World War II. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s athletic events and was very active in Our Lady of Wisdom Prayer Group of Bangor, where she made many friends and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Anna retired from Pilot’s Grill at the age of 72, after working there for 16 years. Anna continued to work however and retired again at the age of 90 after working at the Bangor Motor Inn for several more years. Anna was predeceased by baby Joseph; baby Jean; and her brothers, Charles, Richard, Ernest and Fidalis. She is survived by her son, William Bart of Levant; two daughters, Marianne Grifasi-Miller and her husband, Kevin Miller, of Bangor and Valerie Dyer of Brewer; her son-in-law, Robert Dyer of Bangor; one brother, Lindy Burgess of Hermon; five sisters, Geneva Green of Hermon, Lucille Cowallis of Bangor, Aileen Sequino of Bangor, Joan Orcutt of Eddington and Shirley Hurry of Florida; nine grandchildren, Sam and Marisa Grifasi, Lyndsey Dyer, Amber Williams, Justin and Luke Dyer, Billy and Nolan Bart, and Forrest Miller; three great-grandchildren, Ariana, Makayla and Bradon; three special friends, Paula Mooney, Marilyn McCourt and Lisa Miller, who maintained a close personal relationship with Anna until the end; and “the sisters,” who religiously and lovingly visited her without fail week after week during Anna’s later years when she found it difficult to attend to life’s daily activities. The family offers special thanks to Marjorie Tourigny, who came to know Anna through a personal calling and was as much a source of comfort to her as Anna was an inspiration to Marjorie. The family also thanks the caregivers at Brewer Rehab who showed incredible kindness, compassion and love to Anna in her final days, as well as the scores of people who knew and loved Anna and who supported the family in countless ways. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 26, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor.
