HERMON – Carleton Earl French, 81, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 22, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. Carleton was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Hampden, the eldest son of Earl and Olive (Lovejoy) French. Carleton grew up in Levant and attended Bangor High School, graduating in 1948 with honors. He worked many years as a union glazier. He enjoyed gardening on the family farm in Hermon, fishing and camping with family and friends, and playing cribbage at Hammond Street Senior Center and Rocky Knoll Country Club, where he spent many hours with numerous friends. Carleton was predeceased by his parents; and his loving wife of 44 years, Rachel (Rollins) French. He is survived by his loving children, Cynthia Newcomb and husband, Keven, Diane Wilson, Leslie French, Barry French and Darrell French and girlfriend, Sara; grandsons, Joshua Newcomb and Jacob Newcomb and wife, Jessica; granddaughter, Jessica French; great-grandchildren, Krista and Christian Newcomb; sisters, Ruth Robbins and Jean McGraw; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, at The Rock Church, 1195 Ohio St., corner of Ohio Street and Finson Road, Bangor, with Pastor Kirk Winters officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carleton’s honor may be made to Hammond Street Senior Center, 2 Hammond St., Bangor, ME 04401.
