BUCKSPORT – Elizabeth J. Carroll, 85, died April 22, 2010, with her loving family by her side at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Boonville, N.Y., the daughter of John and Mary (Lupiezowiez) Yazowski. She graduated from Boonville High School, Plattsburgh State Teachers College School of Nursing in 1947, and the State University of New York in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and nursing. Betty was the school nurse in Bucksport before she started teaching fourth grade. After her retirement she continued as a substitute teacher for many years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was very active in many of the groups with the church. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, doing crafts, making rugs and quilting. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, John “Jack” Carroll of Bucksport; son, John and wife, Sharon Carroll, of Orland; daughter Mary and husband, Dan O’Sullivan, of Canton, Mass.; daughter, Patty and husband, John Forino, of Sudbury, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Shauna and husband, Matt Schiff, Alicia and husband, John Lambert, Robbie Carroll and fiancee, Carmen Rogers, Kathleen O’Sullivan, Tim O’Sullivan, Jason Forino and Sara Forino; three great-grandchildren, Barrett, August and Ansley; one sister, Margaret Buneo of Boonville, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bruce Siket, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, Bucksport. Donations in memory of Betty may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Bangor, Inc., 654 State St., Bangor, ME 04401-5649.
